Orthodontics
Orthodontics Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that involves straightening teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. Orthodontic appliances are also commonly known as braces, ‘train-tracks’, retainers, plates, expanders etc.
Orthodontics for children
We generally recommend that a child should see an Orthodontist at approximately 8 years old. If there are likely to be any problems, an Orthodontist can often spot the problem at this age and give advice about sorting it out early, if possible.
Orthodontics for adults
Braces can help improve your smile at any age, and there are many different ways to carry out treatment – removable or fixed, stainless steel or clear, short treatments or longer, more complex treatments. For some people, orthodontics can be a useful addition to a comprehensive dental treatment plan, assisting in the preparation for crowns, veneers, bridges and implants.
Orthodontics and Veneers
The midline space was too large to close with veneers alone. Orthodontics was used to reduce the size of the space and reshape the soft tissue contours. As the roots are moved closer together the soft tissue improves between the two central incisors. Final correction of tooth shape and size was achieved with porcelain veneers on the two central incisors.

Orthodontics and Reconstruction 1
Old crowns and bridges were beginning to breakdown and looked quite artificial. This patient wanted teeth that were nice, yet still looked natural. The poor bite was successfully improved with orthodontic braces on the lower teeth to level the alignment of the lower teeth. The temporary restorations act as a template for the final restorations. Time spent making and perfecting the temporary restorations helps with addressing the aesthetic needs before the final restorations are delivered. The teeth were restored with new crowns, bridges and veneers.
