Dental CT Scan

State-of-the-art technology plays an important part at The Atrium Clinic. An in-office, low radiation Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) scanner is used to obtain high-definition three-dimensional images, rather than the traditional two-dimensional radiographs. This enables the team to provide you with fast, comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning. The CBCT Scan uses advanced computer programs to analyse many small slice views of the jaw collectively known as a CT Scan. By providing detailed three dimensional images, a CBCT Scan enables your dentist to select the best location for your implants and plan the details of your surgery accurately, in advance of the operation.

 

How Does a CBCT Scan Differ From Conventional X-Rays?

Routine dental x-rays are two-dimensional; they only show the location of your teeth and the height of the bone. These x-rays are often inevitably distorted, and they cannot show the precise dimensions of the jawbone.

 

A Dental CT Scan, on the other hand, is distortion free. It illustrates the actual make-up of the bone and provides three-dimensional and cross-sectional views of your jaws. The life-sized images allow your dentist to accurately measure the amount of bone available for implants. The resulting images can be used to virtually place implants on the computer in the best bone and the best locations available, and to avoid vital structures such as nerves.

 

Intra-oral Digital X-Ray Technology

Taking a radiograph with this technology is now fast, simple and much more effective. The advantages are that radiation levels are significantly lower than the conventional technique and images can be viewed almost instantly and analysed on a computer screen.
